Hyena Sanctuary of North America
Welcome to the website of the only dedicated hyena sanctuary in North America. Our mission is to provide a home for members of the hyaenidae family. With a combined 80+ years hyena husbandry experiance among our board members we can offer superior care for displaced, unwanted and unplaceable animals.
All the images you see currently are from the hyenas that inspired this. These are the animals we hope to save. We owe it to them to give them a comfortable home to live out their days in.

The sanctuary stemed from a need to have a dedicated facility specializing in hyenas, familiar with their unique needs. In late 2011 we recognized the need upon the pending dissolving of the Berkeley hyena research colony. We did not have a physical location yet so we assisted in raising money to help keep them going for another year. With no further funding found we knew a physical location had to be built and fast. We relocated to Texas and began searching for property. The end of 2012 had our property search at an end and we are waiting on final property acquisition.
Once we acquire the property construction of the facility will commence. The enclosures will consist of a 60ft X 100ft run per animal, chutes for moving between enclosures, a house, shelter and pool along with enrichment. The entire enclosure matrix will have a double fencing security system to assure the safety of the animals and the surrounding community.
Funding will be primarily through donations. We will be a 501(c)(3) charity with our current status pending federal approval.
All donations go to construction of the hyena enclosures. Our nonprofit status is pending, we are not legally a nonprofit yet. You can still donate here:
